Glamorous reporter is arrested five years after she left country amid alleged $146 million tax fraud scheme

A glamorous reporter has been arrested for her alleged part in a $146 million tax fraud case. She has denied wrongdoing.
Mexican TV host Inés Gómez Mont, 43, was detained by police in Miami, Florida, on Friday after being wanted by Mexican authorities for half a decade.
The star has been accused by the Mexican Attorney General’s Office of being involved in organized crime, money laundering, operations with funds of illicit origin and tax fraud.
The mother-of-six, who famously proposed on television to NFL legend Tom Brady while covering the Super Bowl in 2008, is alleged by Mexican authorities to have used a network of shell companies to divert nearly $146 million from public funds.
A photo shows the moment Gómez Mont was taken into custody; she could be seen standing with handcuffs on her wrists as two police officers hold tightly onto her arms.
She donned a blue mini skirt, white cropped top and sneakers.
In September 2021, a federal judge in Mexico issued a warrant for the arrest of both Gómez Mont and her lawyer husband, Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, but the two left the country with their family.
Afterwards, the Mexican Attorney General’s office requested that Interpol issue an international arrest warrant, known as a red notice, to expand the search and help the country locate the couple and extradite them to Mexico.

In September this year, Interpol controversially lifted its international ‘red notices’ against the couple.
This decision was heavily criticized by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, whilst their local arrest warrants remained active.
For five years, Gómez Mont has lived free in Miami despite the warrant for her arrest in Mexico, but US authorities detained her on October 30 in the Florida city.
She is currently in custody in the States pending immigration proceedings and formal extradition requests.
Her husband Victor, known as ‘King of the Invoice Mills,’ was previously detained in 2025 in Miami, Florida, by ICE.
In 2021, Gómez Mont took to social media to protest her innocence to her 2.5m followers.
‘I have been silent for a few days to try to understand the facts attributed to me and to focus on my defense,’ Gómez Mont said in a statement that she posted on her Instagram account at the time.
‘Despite not having access to the file, I want to emphasize that I am innocent and have not committed any crime.’

‘Indeed, according to the press, the authorities accuse me of allegedly having received money from two public contracts (totaling 3 billion pesos [roughly $146 million]) and of belonging to organized crime. Those facts are absolutely false,’ she added.
‘To be clear, I have never stolen a peso. Nor have I received money from those contracts, much less have I seen or had 3 billion pesos in my life. I’m a full-time mom and TV host. And under no circumstances do I belong to organized crime.’
Gómez Mont and Álvarez Puga could each serve 20 to 60 years in prison if convicted.
The couple were able to obtain two contracts from the Ministry of Interior in 2016 through a ghost firm known as Inteligencia Cibernética and allegedly moved money through 1,500 banking operations.
As part of the deal, the company had to provide security systems to seven jails in the states of Sonora, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Durango, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Morelos.
‘However, that did not happen, as the equipment never reached the prisons being that the [ministry] officials diverted the money to the aforementioned company in a corrupt and illegal way [and] being that it had to be used for improvements in the security of the prison system,’ the Mexican Attorney General’s Office said in a court document.
Inteligencia Cibernética then allegedly used seven other bogus companies named Arromlop, Rancel, Modeno, Comcelint, Gupea, Tangamanga, and an individual, to launder money and create invoices for services that were never rendered from September 2016 to 2017, per the Mexican Attorney General’s Office.
