Gunman arrested at US Capitol as cops swarm SUV

A gunman was arrested at a barricade just north of the US Capitol building around noon Monday.
US Capitol Police vehicles swarmed a Ford Bronco SUV in the leadup to the arrest.
‘We just arrested a man at the North Barricade of the US Capitol who had a firearm. Firearms are prohibited on Capitol Grounds,’ the police said in a statement.
‘The North Barricade will be closed while the USCP investigates. Our investigators are working to learn more about the suspect and why he drove to the US Capitol.’
Other reports indicated that the vehicle also contained a dog.
The House and the Senate are both in session today after their July 4 holiday recess.
Security concerns have dramatically increased recently, with the USCP reporting in January that ‘concerning statements, behaviors, and communications’ against lawmakers and others connected to the Capitol had risen by nearly 60 percent from 2024 to 2025.
The Supreme Court is seeking improved security as well, asking for increased funding that Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Elena Kagan are scheduled to testify to Congress about tomorrow.
