Inside Kmart’s new ‘K home’ store in Australia that’s about to give IKEA a run for its money: ‘What dreams are made of’

Kmart Australia has opened its first-ever showroom-style store, offering shoppers exclusive furniture, storage ideas and everyday essentials.

The retailer is trialling the new format store, aptly named K home, at Box Hill South in Victoria, featuring 3,000sqm of shopping space.

What sets the concept store apart is its new branding, with K home featuring a vibrant orange colour scheme and white lettering.

The K home store looks completely different from a traditional Kmart layout, with room-set displays, an immersive setting and curated furniture collections.

The new store bears a resemblance to IKEA, with huge trolleys, a stunning florist-style set-up, massive cookware section, and bulky furniture neatly displayed across the floor, while samples give shoppers a better idea of how the pieces look once assembled.

The store showcases the full Anko furniture range alongside home styling, bedding, décor, storage and cleaning solutions, allowing customers to touch, feel and compare products.

Upon arrival, shoppers are greeted with a giant map of the store’s layout, showing exactly where products are located across different categories.

Mega Kmart fans who visited the new concept store have shared their glowing reviews, with one saying: ‘This is the store where dreams are made.’

‘K home is a store trial designed to help more Australians create a home they love,’ Kmart Group general manager of store experience Courtny Keeble said.

‘It brings together more of our home range in one dedicated destination, with curated displays, room-set inspiration and access to a broader range of products that make shopping for the home easier, more inspiring and more enjoyable.’

With rising cost-of-living pressures, K home is designed to make it easier than ever for shoppers to give their space a makeover without breaking the bank.
