Iran-US war live: US insists conflict went ‘exactly as planned from day one’ despite fragile ceasefire

The US has insisted that its war against Iran has done “exactly as planned from day one” despite an already shaky ceasefire agreement.

In a post on X, the White House said: “Achieved every single objective on schedule and exactly as planned from day one… Iran’s ability to threaten the region has been systematically dismantled.”

But Iran’s foreign minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi earlier warned “the US must choose ceasefire or continued war via Israel” in a post on X.

Hundreds have been killed and injured in Israeli strikes on Lebanon on Wednesday, according to the country’s civil defence.

The Israeli military told The Independent that it had completed the “largest strike” on the country since the start of the conflict.

Israel welcomed a ceasefire between Iran and the US – but it said the agreement “does not include Lebanon”, a statement confirmed by the White House on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth declared the US had won a “decisive military victory”, while Iran similarly framed the ceasefire as a win.

Trump announced the agreement on Tuesday, hours after he threatened to wipe Iranian civilisation off the map. The two-week ceasefire should lead to Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz, however the waterway currently remains closed.
