Jacob Elordi caught in ‘humiliating lie’ amid new Kendall Jenner romance… insiders reveal major misstep that could ruin his career: ‘Karma will come fast’

Driving around LA on double dates and sipping rosé from the bottle on a beach in Hawaii, it looks like the blissful early days of a new A-list romance.

Kendall Jenner, 30, is giddily following in the footsteps of younger sister Kylie by dating a movie star, Oscar nominee Jacob Elordi, 28, and looked more smitten than ever with the hunk this past weekend.

The problem? Elordi – star of the recent hit movie Wuthering Heights – dropped out of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival earlier this month and has been lying low in recovery amid reports of a broken foot.

But with no orthopedic cast or boot in sight on the Hawaiian beach, and with the actor even pictured in the driver’s seat of a car while out on an LA double date with Kendall, Kylie and her longtime boyfriend Timothee Chalamet, some followers are now questioning whether Elordi used the injury as an elaborate ruse to miss the French film festival – which many say has lost its glitzy luster in recent years. 

What’s more, whispers are circulating over the potential impact Elordi’s new entanglement with a ‘lower-rent’ reality TV veteran, such as Kendall, could have on his nascent Hollywood leading-man credentials. After all, the so-called ‘Kardashian curse’ was widely blamed as at least part of the reason for Chalamet’s three Oscar losses earlier this year.

An insider tells the Daily Mail: ‘People attending Cannes have viewed Jacob’s absence as a bad look, but most have already moved past it and are focused on enjoying the festival. There’s very much an “out of sight, out of mind” mentality surrounding it.

‘In the long run, it’s unlikely to seriously damage his standing or prevent future invitations.’

But, the insider warned that while Elordi is afforded a degree of respect due to his recent streak of hits – in Wuthering Heights, Frankenstein and the TV series Euphoria – if his success slows, public opinion may swiftly turn against him.

‘The bigger issue for Jacob is his ego – if he ever hits a rough patch with a streak of unsuccessful films or TV projects, the criticism and karma could come fast,’ the insider said.

‘But at the moment, he remains one of the most sought-after young actors in the industry. And despite these recent appearances, especially with him being seen out and about with Kendall, people are still largely taking him at his word that he’s injured.

‘Even though Cannes would have gone out of its way to accommodate him and minimize any walking, there is still some lingering disappointment that he chose not to attend. But ultimately, there’s only so much anyone can do about it.’

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Elordi and Kendall for comment.

Kendall and Elordi were first romantically linked after they were seen ‘making out and all over each other’ during Justin Bieber’s post-show party at Coachella last month – with a source telling the Daily Mail that Kylie had played matchmaker.

The pair, it is said, have been friendly for years. Elordi attended Kendall’s 2022 birthday bash and they were seen locked in conversation at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in March.

The latter followed Elordi’s Best Supporting Actor award loss (for his role as the creature in Frankenstein) at the awards ceremony.

Elordi has been linked to a number of high-profile women, including model Kaia Gerber and, most recently, influencer Olivia Jade Giannulli.

For her part, Kendall has enjoyed a string of famous boyfriends, including professional athletes Devin Booker and Ben Simmons, as well as rapper Bad Bunny.

Kylie, 28, has been dating Chalamet, 30, since April 2023.
