KJ Apa Goes Nuclear On His All-But-Confirmed Alter Ego Mr. Fantasy: ‘F**king Liar & Thief’

Riverdale star KJ Apa has scolded what is highly likely to be his musical alter ego Mr. Fantasy, calling him a “liar and thief” after KJ’s co-stars appeared in his new music video.

KJ, who is all-but confirmed to be the man behind Mr. Fantasy’s wig and fake teeth, took to Instagram today after the release of the singer’s music video for “Do Me Right”, which featured Riverdale stars Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, and Madelaine Petsch

In a wide-ranging rant, KJ said “a bunch of people who are really close to me” starred in a video by “a guy who has completely and utterly stolen my image and misappropriated my image and my likeness”.

“Enough is enough. I didn’t think it was even worth addressing, but now because of how it’s impacting my life personally, I feel like I have to talk about it,” KJ said.

“I think we all know who we’re talking about, and it’s f**ked up,” he added.

KJ went on to accuse Mr. Fantasy — who has been linked to him ever since popping up on TikTok in mid-2025 — of “hurting me and my career”, claiming the viral sensation had “lost me a huge job” and prevented him from getting “serious work because people think that I’m a joke because of this guy”.

“I don’t know what to do about it other than bring it here and do everything that I can to protect myself because it’s completely f**king disrespectful and completely wrong to do that,” KJ said.

After noting the resemblance between them, right down the the tattoos, KJ called Mr. Fantasy a “f**king idiot” and told him to look in the mirror and “tell yourself that you’re not a f**king liar and a thief, because that’s exactly what you are”.

The actor received an outpouring of support from his famous pals in the comments, with Taylor Lautner writing “this has to end” and Alexandra Shipp saying she “knew something was off” with Mr. Fantasy.

Meanwhile, Zoey Deutch and Patrick Schwarzenegger, who also starred in the video, both sent their apologies, with the former saying she “feel[s] really bad about the whole thing”.

Though KJ has denied any connection to Mr. Fantasy — saying last month he doesn’t “know what that guy is” and that he doesn’t “really have any respect for him” — fans still aren’t convinced the whole thing isn’t a cheeky but bizarre publicity stunt.

“At first I thought he was serious,” one fan wrote on KJ’s post this morning, while another demanded we “give this man an Emmy” for “keeping a straight face” throughout the rant.

“Can you imagine if someone actually was doing this to him and we all thought he was joking,” another user wrote.

The point of the whole charade for KJ beyond a silly musical side-quest remains to be seen, but him calling out the musician takes the stunt to a whole other level.

Whatever the case, consider me strapped the f**k in for whatever this is, and catch me first in line for tickets to Mr. Fantasy’s sold-out tour.
