Man urged to dump girlfriend after she shows up uninvited on his trip to Paris: ‘Red flag’

A woman from Utah decided to surprise her boyfriend by tagging along on what was supposed to be a father-son trip to Paris – and his seemingly uninterested reaction to the news has gone viral on TikTok.

The video was posted on June 22 by TikTok user Jaedin, an 18-year-old who shares a joint account with her boyfriend, Jack.

They are high school sweethearts and getting ready to be in a long-distance relationship, as Jack prepares to leave on a mission trip for two years this summer.

In a clip that’s now garnered over 3.2 million views, Jaedin documented the big surprise that she had up her sleeve for Jack – she and his mom were going to be joining him and his dad on a trip to Paris.

‘I’m about to surprise my boyfriend on his Paris trip, he doesn’t know I’m coming with him yet,’ she began the video, which was taken as she arrived at the airport.

She added that she and Jack’s mom had been planning this and keeping it a secret for a long time, and just ‘couldn’t wait’ to see his reaction.

However, many viewers felt like his reaction was very telling and were not impressed by Jaedin’s surprise.

The clip showed Jaedin walking right up to Jack at the airport and pretending to be a stranger by telling him that he was ‘pretty cute.’

After he realized it was her, she gushed: ‘I’m just gonna tag along with you to Paris,’ as she pulled him in for a hug.

‘Are you actually?’ he replied. ‘Are you serious?’

Jack’s mouth hung open in disbelief as he looked at her in complete shock.

‘Wait, you’re actually coming?’ he asked again, nearly rendered speechless. 

Jaedin nodded, and he then pulled her in for another hug, still looking extremely surprised by the news.

The video went viral almost immediately, as many users analyzed Jack’s reaction to the news and Jaedin’s decision to join him on the trip.

The couple has since turned off comments on the video, but according to The Mary Sue, some users even urged him to break up with her in the comment section, saying that she was ‘ruining’ his trip.

In the caption of the video, Jaedin shared some added context, explaining that Jack was originally going to Paris with his dad for five days for both his birthday and senior trip – and it was his parents who decided to have her and his mom tag along for an ‘added surprise.’ 

‘Once he gets home from Paris he has two weeks and then he leaves on his mission to serve the lord and people of Arizona,’ Jaedin wrote.

‘So his parents thought he would enjoy getting to spend the extra time with me before he is off.’

Many TikTok users ‘stitched’ the original video and shared their thoughts, including Eriq Hampton, whose response garnered 1.6 million views.

‘No, it’s not okay for you to go on his trip unannounced,’ Hampton said.

He went on to analyze Jack’s reaction, theorizing that he must have thought that his future with Jaedin would have been ‘over’ if he said no to her joining him on the trip.

‘Here’s the thing, it is his trip, and she ruined it already, his life literally flashed before his eyes,’ Hampton said.

In the comments section of his video, many users seemed to agree with his take.

‘I am married and I LOVE him but if I planned a trip alone for fun, I would have been sooo mad if he just invited himself to it,’ one person wrote.

Another seconded: ‘I’m mad if my husband comes home when I thought I had my day off alone at home.’

‘That was a super selfish move on their part,’ someone else typed.

‘Red flag,’ a TikTok user chimed in. 

Others, however, defended Jaedin and Jack.

‘I don’t know what kind of relationships y’all are in, me and my husband are like two lifelong besties , we wanna go everywhere together,’ someone wrote.

Another commented: ‘Y’all don’t even know their relationship… they’re also long-distance so it’s a little different. I think it’s weird to just assume how he feels.’
