Nightmare moment wildlife worker is mauled by a crocodile in front of crowd as bystander threads pole through enclosure fence to try and save him

Horrifying footage captured the moment a crocodile sank its teeth into a worker at a wildlife park in Papua New Guinea.

The worker had been inside the crocodile enclosure at Adventure Park in Port Moresby when the mauling unfolded on Saturday afternoon.

The crocodile clamped its jaw down on his legs, with a terrified bystander filming the incident.

Video showed the worker half submerged in the pool, remaining perfectly still.

A bystander had extended a pole through the fence of the enclosure, with the worker holding onto it for dear life.

Gasps and panicked voices emanated from the crowd that had gathered to watch on in helpless horror.

Emergency services were called to the scene, with police shooting the crocodile.

The attack comes after social media photos showed staff handling crocodiles at the park, with one worker seen sitting on the back of one of the predators.
