Teenager fighting for life after Brisbane drive-by shooting injures four at boxing event

A 19-year-old woman is fighting for her life in a hospital after she was shot in the head and neck outside a venue hosting a boxing event in Australia’s Brisbane.
She was among the four people injured in the drive-by shooting outside Fitzy’s Loganholme, south of Brisbane, on Saturday, Queensland police said.
The shooting unfolded at around 8.18pm on Saturday when a Mitsubishi pulled up near a group of people gathered in the passenger drop-off zone outside Fitzy’s.
Queensland police detective inspector Ian Galpin said investigators believed two men wearing balaclavas and gloves were inside the vehicle and allegedly fired several shots through its front window, hitting four people.
The Jimboomba woman, 19, was in critical condition and has undergone surgery, police said.
Mr Galpin said the woman was not believed to be a target but an “innocent bystander”.
“It appals me greatly. It’s horrific. It’s something that her family should never have to go through,” he said.
“This is a horrific event in a public space where adults and children are simply trying to enjoy a sporting event, and this incident is clearly not acceptable.”
The three injured men also underwent surgery after they received gunshot injuries.
A 38-year-old Browns Plains man was shot in the abdomen and arm. A 37-year-old Salisbury man, shot in the abdomen. They were in serious but stable condition.
A 27-year-old Cornubia man, also shot in the abdomen, was in stable condition.
A manhunt has been launched for at least three people, including one of the occupants of the car who is believed to be injured, possibly with burns.
He said the Mitsubishi car was set alight on Maloney Road at Waterford West after the incident and the person could have been injured.
“CCTV and witness accounts identified two males within that vehicle, both wearing balaclavas and gloves,” he said.
