The Block’s Scott Cam Apologises For Major Incident: ‘Gutted’

Well, that didn’t take long. Less than a week after launching, The Block 2026 has had its first major scandal with one team threatening to quit the reality show.

In case you missed it, Gold Coast couple Chantel Green and Wyatt Randall were called out by host Scott Cam in Sunday night’s episode for blowing their budget and spending over $20,000 on their guest room. 

“No we didn’t,” a very confused Chantel replied, while Scott adamantly responded, “Yes, you did. Our accountants go through everything; we know every cent that you spend”.

It turns out the accountants don’t actually know everything, however, as it was revealed in Monday night’s episode they had made an error and accidentally calculated their invoices twice. But the damage was already done, as Chantel and Wyatt had started packing their bags and were planning to leave The Block because they believed their reputations had been damaged.

What actually happened to Chantel and Wyatt’s budget?

After Chantel and Wyatt were a no-show to the job site the following morning, Scotty gathered the remaining contestants to clear the air about what had happened.

“We’ve had a major issue on our part. Last night a mistake was made with their budgeting; it’s our fault,” he explained.

“I feel as though we embarrassed Chantel and Wyatt on national television in front of all of you and all the folks at home as well, and we’re trying to communicate with them, but understandably, they’re still at home in the sharehouse at this stage.”

Enter The Block’s psychologist Simon, who acted as somewhat of a mediator between the show’s production team and the couple as they prepared to walk away. Wyatt, a personal trainer and former Australian Defence Force rifleman, was particularly furious at the situation and was convinced they had been intentionally embarrassed.

“I’m not [here to be] made out to be cheaters [and] liars on national TV, and I’m not here to have my business jeopardised when I go back because of these pigs,” he said in a hot mic moment.

“They can jeopardise their show. They’re not jeopardising my business and my integrity. That’s disgusting.”

Eventually, Chantel and Wyatt agreed to meet with Scotty and the show’s executive producer, Julian Cress, who profusely apologised for the incident and asserted that it wasn’t on purpose.

“I’ve got to say that we are extremely sorry for what’s happened. We’ve been told that you still think it was deliberate; it 1000 per cent was not deliberate,” Scotty told them.

Julian added that it was a production mistake because the builders’ invoice was added twice, and he felt “devastated”. “Nothing like this has ever happened before, and we’re literally gutted. We’re deeply sorry to both of you, and our production accountant is equally devastated,” he said. 

Wyatt — who had refused to sit down during the discussion — still wasn’t happy with the apology and argued that they could’ve avoided this whole situation by re-filming Sunday night’s episode.

“I’m a small business owner, I pride myself on integrity, I pride myself on being a good human, and you’re making me look like a piece of s**t, Scott,” he said. “Youse don’t have as much to lose as we have to lose in this situation.” 

Scotty and Julian continued to apologise for the mistake, emphasising that they hoped the fact they were expressing remorse was enough to show them the incident wasn’t staged and restore their integrity, and Chantel and Wyatt agreed to take time to think things over.

Ultimately, the couple announced to their co-stars at the end of the night that they were going to stay in the competition.

Fans react to Chantel and Wyatt’s crashout

The incident has since received a mixed response from viewers, with some people criticising the show for having so much “drama” and others saying they’re on Chantel and Wyatt’s side.

“I truly think that Chantel and Wyatt’s crashout was valid. I think that there is something 100 per cent off with what happened,” one person wrote on Reddit, while others argued that his reaction “wasn’t justified”.

“I think his concerns were valid from a potential future clientele/business perspective as MAFS contestants have been destroyed by their ‘edits’. In saying that, he massively overreacted,” someone else replied.

“Good on you both for standing your ground. How would you feel and react if you were accused of doing something you didn’t do in front of one million people?” a different user remarked on Instagram.

Chantel and Wyatt have clearly put the drama behind them as they’ve attended promotional events for the series and continued filming until week 12, but we’ll have to stay tuned to see what other drama emerges as the season continues. Stay tuned to see which couple has the next crashout!
