Armenia and Azerbaijan agree to resume operation of railways

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that at a trilateral meeting in Brussels with the Azerbaijani President, an agreement with Azerbaijan to restart the railway was confirmed.

“Accordingly, the railways will operate in accordance with internationally accepted border and customs rules, on the basis of the principle of reciprocity, and under the sovereignty and authority of states,” the Prime Minister of Armenia wrote on Facebook.

According to him, Armenia will be able to reach by rail to Iran and Russia. It is noteworthy that the two parties agreed to continue contact.

It was reported earlier that Turkey and Armenia will launch charter flights and appoint special representatives to normalize relations.

It is known that diplomats appointed to this position will look for ways to normalize relations between the two countries.

Armenian Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Vahan Hunanyanog welcomed Ankara’s statement and affirmed Yerevan’s readiness to appoint a special representative.

There are no diplomatic relations between Yerevan and Ankara, and the border between the two countries has been closed since 1993. The two sides cannot find understanding on a number of fundamental issues, including the recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
