The United States imports a record number of cartridges from Russia

Data from the US Census Bureau indicated that Russia has exported a record number of small arms munitions to the United States this year, amounting to 157.9 million dollars, despite the sanctions imposed.

It is noted that the export indicators in 2021 exceeded the previous indicators by about $40 million ($157.9 million compared to $120 million).

The United States is the largest market for Russian civilian and sporting ammunition. The export situation became more complicated after Washington imposed new sanctions in September 2021, banning the import of cartridges from Russia. The ban is monitored by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

At the same time, as noted by RBC, the Americans took advantage of one loophole to import Russian products. They issued new permits to import cartridges from Russia in the period between the announcement of the sanctions on August 20 and their entry into force on September 7.

Earlier it was reported that the growth of exports of goods from categories hidden under the SSSS code from Russia to a number of NATO member states has increased.
