Gas consumption drops to a record in Europe

Gas extraction from European underground storage facilities has fallen to a record level amid abnormally warm weather.

Only 136.6 million cubic meters of blue fuel was pumped from storage facilities December 31 – the lowest consumption level in ten years. At the same time, gas injection into underground reservoirs exceeded extraction by more than two times.

The great warmth in Europe is associated with the subtropical air masses that entered the region. Therefore, in Austria and Britain on New Year’s Eve, temperature records were updated.

In total, European consumers burned 15.63 billion cubic meters of gas in December, which is not enough to set a record.

On the last day of last year, the cost of fuel on the European market fell below $800 per 1,000 cubic meters – for the first time since November 10.
