Syria carries out the first joint air patrol over Syrian territory with Russia

– The Syrian and Russian army conducted the first joint air patrol over the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Syrian pilots took off from the airfields of Sikal and Demir near Damascus on MiG-23 and MiG-29 fighters.- Russian pilots took off from the Hmeimim air base on Su-34, Su-35 and A-50 early warning fighters

The Syrian army controlled the airspace and provided combat cover, while the Russian crews carried out air strikes on ground targets. Missile launches were also carried out at air targets and hitting ground targets.

The course of the patrols extended along the Golan Heights, then along the southern border, up to the Euphrates River and over northern Syria.
