Arming Russian submarines with “dinosaurs”
The electric torpedoes UET-1 “Ichthyosaurus” will enter service with the Russian Navy – Russian nuclear submarines will be armed with these torpedoes.
A source in the military-industrial complex explained that “in the near future, it is planned to equip some projects of nuclear submarines with the latest UET-1 torpedoes.”
First of all, diesel-electric submarines of the Varshavyanka (Project 636.3) and Lada (Project 677) type will be equipped with torpedoes. After that, all Russian nuclear-powered ships will be re-equipped with torpedoes.
Ichthyosaurus torpedoes are produced at the Dagdiesel plant in Dagestan (part of the Tatic Missiles Corporation OJSC, KTRV)
It was reported that under a five-year contract concluded in 2018, the Russian Naval Station is to be equipped with 73 torpedoes.
Dagdiesel first announced the new torpedo in 2017 at the International Maritime Defense Exhibition – he presented an export version of the UET-1E torpedo.
