US supplies Indonesia with 39 F-15s

The White House has approved a $13.9 billion deal with Indonesia to sell 36 F-15 fighter jets along with parts and weapons.

Describing the deal as essential to US foreign policy objectives, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken described Indonesia as an important regional partner “a guarantor of political stability and economic progress in the Asia-Pacific region.”

“It is vital to US national interests that Indonesia help develop and maintain a robust and effective self-defense capability,” Blinken said.

The twin-engine F-15 fighter was developed by McDonnell Douglas in the 1970s and belongs to the fourth generation of combat aircraft. It has the ability to reach speeds of up to Mach 2.5 and an altitude of 20 km. The aircraft is armed with 16 air-to-air missiles of different ranges, as well as a 20 mm cannon with 940 rounds.
