Lithuania and Latvia expel Russian ambassadors

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielus Landsbergis announced that his country is downgrading diplomatic relations with Russia.

“The government of Lithuania, in response to Russia’s persistent aggressive actions in Ukraine, has decided to reduce the Russian diplomatic mission,” said the Lithuanian foreign minister. And “the Russian ambassador will have to leave Lithuania.”

Lithuania also recalled its ambassador from Russia.

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevix wrote about a similar decision on Twitter.

Latvia will reduce diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation. He pointed out that the decision was taken against the background of what happened in the Ukrainian city of Bucha.

Earlier, the representative of the EU Foreign Service Peter Stano had indicated that the EU considers it necessary to continue diplomatic contacts with the Russian Federation.
