Macron accuses Le Pen of planning ‘Frexit’

Incumbent French President Emmanuel Macron said during a speech to voters in Strasbourg, that French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen has a secret plan to withdraw the country from the European Union and create a “right-wing alliance” with Poland and Hungary.

“She wants to take France out of the European Union, but she does not dare to say that, and this is not good,” Macron said, trying to assess his opponent’s foreign policy.

Macron added that French voters are too pro-European to accept a so-called Frexit, so Le Pen could attack the bloc from within after it joined the populist governments in Poland and Hungary.

“The European Union has changed the life of this country,” he concluded, accusing Le Pen that her plans do not stand up to scrutiny.

On April 10, the first round of presidential elections took place in France. Marine Le Pen and current French President Emmanuel Macron entered the second round, which will be held on April 24.

According to BFMTV, the turnout in the French elections was about 73%.
