Medical problems in which you should abstain from sex during pregnancy

In modern medicine, it is believed that sexual intercourse does not adversely affect the course of pregnancy. However, after the first trimester, a woman should be careful.

Elena Rodina, obstetrician-gynecologist, says there are many reasons why a doctor might recommend temporary abstinence.

According to the doctor, if the mother complains of abdominal pain and spotting, the health worker can diagnose a threat of miscarriage. In this case, the woman will have contraindications to sexual activity. The reasons for temporary abstinence will be the functional inferiority of the cervix and partial detachment of the placenta.

The specialist referred to clinical recommendations for initiating sexual activity in the event of a caesarean section.

Rodina explained, “The conditions for each woman are individual. Sex is allowed from 8-10 weeks after surgery. Before that, the woman must make sure that the uterus is completely clean. This is indicated by the absence of lochia (natural postpartum secretions – from the genital tract).”
