American swimmer Armstrong breaks world record

American swimmer Hunter Armstrong broke the world record in the 50m backstroke in the national qualifying round for the world championships in the United States.

The representative of the United States managed to run the distance in 23.71 seconds, breaking the world record of Russian Kliment Kolesnikov, who went 0.09 seconds slower at the European Championships 2021.

“I was shocked by my result. As you know, Kliment Kolesnikov is one of the fastest swimmers in the world at this distance.
Armstrong was quoted by the US Swimming Association’s official website as saying: “I was shocked by my result. As you know, Kliment Kolesnikov is one of the fastest swimmers in the world at this distance. – to be on an equal footing with him is an incredible feeling.”

Notably, at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Armstrong won a gold medal in the heats in the 4×100m medley relay swimming, backstroke, and finished ninth in the 100m backstroke.
