El-Gindy calls for linking higher education outcomes to the labor market and applying international quality standards

Engineer Hazem Al-Jundi, Senator and Assistant Chairman of the Wafd Party, said that education is an essential pillar for building and renaissance of nations, and a gateway to a prosperous future full of knowledge and innovation, pointing out that the state is making great efforts to develop university and pre-university education, given its role in Achieving sustainable development, and its importance as a main axis in the strategy of building the Egyptian human being.

 

He added during the plenary session of the Senate, today, Monday, to discuss a request for a public discussion to clarify the government’s policy regarding achieving quality education. Higher level and the effectiveness of the role of the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation, that there is an urgent need to achieve the quality of university education to ensure Egypt’s progress in the global rankings, especially since according to the results of the Global Knowledge Index for the year 2023, Egypt’s ranking in the sub-index for university education came in 94th place, which is a lagging position. It is not commensurate with Egypt’s status and value.

El-Gindy explained that there are challenges facing the implementation of quality education, including a lack of resources and funding, qualified infrastructure, a lack of trained and qualified human resources to implement quality, the inadequacy of some curricula, and the failure to use teaching methods. Effectively attracts students and encourages them to learn, and the absence of a culture of quality in many university educational institutions.

  Al-Jundi recommended developing a clear strategic plan that defines the goals and objectives of higher education and applying quality in accordance with international standards, providing the necessary funding to achieve quality education in universities, increasing financial allocations for higher education and scientific research, and expanding the establishment of public, private and technological universities to match the annual increase in the number of students enrolled in universities. In addition to developing the coordination system for university admission and taking into account the proportionality of the number of students with the number of faculty members.

He stressed the need to develop curricula periodically to keep pace with technology and the latest developments in various fields, keep pace with the labor market, and provide qualified academic cadres to apply Quality standards, enhancing critical thinking skills and creativity among students and not relying on memorization and memorization only, stressed the importance of providing good infrastructure in universities and supporting them with all necessary means to achieve quality, qualifying and training the human element, improving the financial conditions of faculty members and meeting their needs to motivate them.

 The Senator called for linking education and its outcomes to the needs of society and the requirements of the labor market, and applying digital transformation and the use of technology in various colleges and institutes to implement quality standards. He also called for activating the role of the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation, as there is still wide scope To further activate the Authority’s role to fully achieve its desired goals, the Authority must therefore work to enhance cooperation with various stakeholders, especially with the Ministry of Education, to ensure the integration of quality standards into all stages of education, from kindergarten to higher education, and cooperate with universities, institutes, and colleges to provide The necessary support and guidance to improve its quality systems. Financial support must also be provided to enhance the Authority’s role, train and provide the necessary human cadres to carry out its role, and cooperate with civil society organizations interested in education to raise awareness of the importance of quality and the Authority’s role.

 Al-Jundi pointed out To the importance of private sector participation in financing and supporting the Authority’s initiatives to improve the quality of education, and to review and update current quality standards to ensure that they keep pace with the latest developments in the field of education.
