NASA launches new lunar mission Artemis in late summer

NASA plans to launch an Artemis I rocket to the moon on August 29, September 2, or September 5. Jim Frey, deputy director of NASA’s Office of Exploration Systems Development, said this during a press conference in honor of the 53rd anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

“The first Artemis without a crew will go on a trip to the moon and return to Earth,” Frey said. “This mission will begin the NASA Artemis program, which aims to land humans on the moon, including the first woman and first people of color on the moon by 2025.”

The mission will last 42 days after launch. At the moment, the astronauts are preparing for the flight.

According to mission commander Mike Sarafin, the rocket will travel at about 39,000 km/h, a record speed for a spacecraft returning from low Earth orbit.
