Azerbaijan demands complete disarmament of Nagorno-Karabakh

In a statement broadcast on the Telegram channel of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense, Azerbaijan demanded the complete demilitarization of the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

As indicated by the military department, Baku has repeatedly stated that “contrary to the Tripartite Declaration, the presence of the Armenian armed forces and illegal Armenian armed formations on the territory of Azerbaijan”, where the peacekeeping unit of the Russian Federation is temporarily stationed, is a “source of danger”.

“The demilitarization of these lands, the complete withdrawal of the Armenian forces from there, the disarmament of the illegal Armenian armed formations are absolutely necessary,” the statement said.

On August 3, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense reported that the country’s armed forces carried out a special operation “Retribution” and took control of a number of heights in response to firing from the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Earlier, he announced a partial mobilization in Nagorno-Karabakh after another escalation on the border with Azerbaijan.

At the end of September 2020, hostilities resumed in Nagorno-Karabakh, which became a continuation of the conflict that began in 1988. On November 9, 2020, with the mediation of Moscow, a ceasefire agreement was signed, as a result of which Azerbaijan retained possession of its lands in Nagorno-Karabakh.
