US Senate votes on Finland and Sweden joining NATO

The Senate Senate Press Service said on Twitter that the Senate will vote on Finland and Sweden joining NATO.

US senators will consider two amendments to the resolution ratifying the protocols for these countries’ accession to NATO, and then a final vote will be taken on the document itself.

C-Span journalist Craig Kaplan wrote on Twitter that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has invited the ambassadors of Sweden and Finland to the United States for the upcoming Senate meeting as spectators.

On July 11, US President Joe Biden submitted to the Senate the ratification of the protocols for the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO.

The ratification procedure is carried out directly by the head of state, and the Senate approves this.
