New Toyota Camry fails safety test

The 2022 Toyota Camry received the worst result in the side crash test conducted by the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

“Camry test results showed a moderate risk of injury to the driver’s torso and pelvis, as well as a high risk of injury to the rear passenger’s pelvis,” the crash tester said.

In addition to the Camry, IIHS has implemented side bumper bars on six other vehicles of this year’s model year. The worst results were also shown by the Nissan Altima and the Chevrolet Malibu. Honda Accord gets a C grade, Hyundai Sonata and Volkswagen Jetta get an affordable rating, and Subaru Outback gets the highest score.

“In Camry, Altima and Malibu sedans, the heads of the driver or rear passenger (or both) slipped under the side curtain airbag and touched the door,” IIHS said.

IIHS Tests Updated Side Crash Test – Studies have shown that previous tests do not reflect the severity of real-world side crashes, which account for nearly a quarter of fatalities among passenger cars. The updated lateral test uses a heavier baffle that moves at a higher speed.

The new Fender weighs 1,905 kg, which is close to the weight of today’s mid-size SUV. During the test, the barrier is pushed against the test car at a speed of 60 km / h (versus 1500 kg and 50 km / h before).

It was reported earlier that the Jeep Wrangler again failed the crash test, and capsized after the collision.
