More than 90 people were killed after a fishing boat capsized in Mozambique

More than 90 people were killed when a fishing boat overcrowded with passengers capsized off the northern coast of Mozambique while they were fleeing to another area to escape the cholera disease spreading in the country.

 

The website reported ( News 24) of South Africa quoted local officials in Mozambique as saying, “The fishing boat, which had been converted into a passenger boat, was carrying about 130 people, and that it encountered problems while trying to reach an island off Nampula province.”

 

The southern African country, which is one of the poorest countries in the world, has recorded nearly 15,000 cases of cholera, which is transmitted through water, and 32 deaths since October, according to government data, and Nampula is the region with the most were affected, representing a third of all cases.

 

The authorities explained that an investigation team is working to find out the causes of the boat disaster, noting that five people survived, while two of them are receiving treatment in the hospital.
