Knights star suspended over ugly tunnel stoush

UPDATED: Newcastle firebrand Jack Hetherington is facing a suspension for an ugly confrontation on Sunday.

Hetherington shaped up to Canterbury hooker Reed Mahoney in the Accor Stadium tunnel after both players were sin-binned for an altercation on the field late in the game.

Hetherington was on Monday offered a one-game suspension for his actions, or risks two games if he fights it at the judiciary and loses.

Mahoney can accept a $1000 fine for baiting Hetherington before the tunnel stoush.

After being marched to the bin, Hetherington came out of the dressing room to confront Mahoney in the tunnel and had to be dragged away by Bulldogs staff.

Vision broadcast on Fox League showed Hetherington shaping up to Mahoney in the sheds and then aggressively shoving his rival in the chest.

Speaking on Nine’s broadcast, 9News and Sydney Morning Herald reporter Michael Chammas revealed details of the altercation.

“Jack Hetherington allegedly came out of the sheds as Reed Mahoney was coming up the tunnel and confronted Reed Mahoney,” he told Nine.
