The Turkish President arrives in Baghdad on his first official visit to Iraq in 13 years

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived this Monday morning at Baghdad International Airport. In the first official visit to Iraq in 13 years.

 

Al-Sumaria News channel reported that a large, high-level government and parliamentary delegation is accompanying the Turkish President during his visit to the country. 

 

Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani had described Erdogan’s visit to Iraq as “not a passing visit,” and would include, for the first time, developing solutions instead of transferring crises.

 

For his part, the Iraqi government spokesman, Bassem Al-Awadi, confirmed today (Monday) that the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iraq will witness a very big starting point in bilateral relations between the two countries.

Al-Awadi said – in a special statement to the Al-Iraqiya news channel – “Iraq and Turkey will sign a strategic agreement that includes water and agriculture.”

He added that " Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani will announce the establishment of a special fund with Turkey for a long-term plan that includes Turkey contributing to the establishment of major mega projects in Iraq.”
