War in Ukraine: the situation on the front will worsen within a month, says the head of Ukrainian military intelligence

The situation on the Ukrainian front will worsen around mid-May and early June, warned the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, Monday April 22. He felt that it would be a “hard time”as fears of a new Russian offensive grow.

“Let’s not go into too much detail, but there will be a difficult period, in mid-May and early June,” he said in an interview with the BBC’s Ukrainian service. Russian army “conducts a complex operation“, he said. “Armageddon will not happen, contrary to what many are saying at the moment. But there will be problems from mid-May”he added.

The Ukrainian army is already going through a delicate period, facing a shortage of new recruits and ammunition due to significant delays in deliveries of Western aid, particularly American. The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian forces admitted in mid-April that the situation on the front had “considerably deteriorated” recently. He said he saw a “significant intensification” of the Russian offensive since March, leading to “tactical successes”.

Kremlin troops regularly claim the capture of small villages in Donbass. Moscow, which captured Avdiïvka in February, is now targeting the strategic city of Chassiv Yar.
