Dog attack: Bronx man mauled to death by pit bull, police shoot dog dead inside apartment

BRONX (WABC) — Police officers shot and killed a pit bull that was attacking its owner inside a Bronx apartment.

The 41-year-old was attacked in his Simpson Street apartment shortly before 3.10am on Friday.

“There was a girl in the apartment and she was screaming that she was unconscious and then she said, oh, call 911, look, she’s unconscious, she can’t get up. And that’s when the police officers finally arrived and entered the apartment.” said Gilbert Durecout, a resident of the building.

Two responding officers shot the dog to stop the attack. They say the dog, named Max, was biting his owner’s leg and neck.

The victim died at St Barnabas Hospital.

The officers were treated for tinnitus.

The incident is under investigation.
