British Ministry of Defense database hacked

The British Ministry of Defense has had its database containing personal data of military personnel hacked. The BBC and Sky News received information about the hacker attack.

The BBC has no information about who was behind the hack. Sky News says that while the government will not name a specific country, it believes the hackers are linked to Chinese authorities.

According to information available to the BBC, hackers gained access to a system that stores military pay slips and bank account numbers.

The hacked system, maintained by an external ministry contractor, contained personal data on former members of Britain’s army, navy and air force. We are talking about documents submitted to the tax service.

The hackers did not gain access to the operational information of the Ministry of Defense, since the computers of an external contractor were hacked, reports BBC.
