Head of “Iraqi Integrity”: Egypt has long-established oversight bodies and has made great achievements in combating corruption.

The head of the Federal Integrity Commission in Iraq, Haider Hanoun, confirmed that Egypt has long-established oversight bodies, has achieved great achievements, and is capable of exporting its capabilities and accumulated experience in the field of combating corruption.

 

Haider Hanoun said in a statement to the Middle East News Agency today, Monday, on the sidelines of the Arab Forum, “Strengthening anti-corruption efforts…a reality and challenges.” Held in Cairo – There are foundations adopted by the Federal Integrity Commission in Iraq at this stage, the most important of which is cooperation and partnership with anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies in Arab countries, and the first country to which the Commission headed was the Arab Republic of Egypt.

He noted Head of the Integrity Commission in Iraq, with the existing cooperation between his country and Egypt in the field of capacity support and exchange of experiences, where meeting and communication points were achieved between the two sides to move forward in anti-corruption efforts.

He revealed that there is cooperation between Egypt and Iraq in the field of academic training. To combat corruption, during the coming period, courses will be organized in Egypt in which a number of Iraqis will participate to learn the depth of the Egyptian anti-corruption strategy, the achievements it has achieved, as well as the rules upon which it was built, stressing his country’s keenness to transfer the accumulated experience in Egypt in the field of combating corruption, In addition to the successful experiences achieved in this field.

He highlighted that his country is in the process of preparing a new strategy to combat corruption, as the existing strategy will end during the current year, and another strategy will be prepared for the period (2025-2030), explaining that The anticipated strategy will be based on new rules and new additional foundations that were not included in the old strategy. The new strategy will depend on participation with the private sector, civil society, and investigative journalism, in addition to participation and twinning with international organizations concerned with combating corruption, including the United Nations Development Programme, as well as The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, which is the main supporter of the current strategy.

Regarding the role of technology in the field of combating corruption, the head of the Integrity Commission in Iraq considered that technology has positive and negative aspects in the field of fighting corruption.

p>Haider Hanoun said that the technology that is used in the field of combating corruption can also be used by corrupt people in their criminal practices, adding that to avoid this problem, we must work in two parallel directions. The first is related to developing the rules for using technology in the field of combating corruption, and the second is how to work on Preventing criminals from using technology for corruption, with the aim of protecting the capabilities of countries and peoples.
