Advance:

  • Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer will star in ‘The Death of Robin Hood’.
  • ‘A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski is overseeing the film.
  • You will see a seriously injured Robin dealing with his past.

Do you think that, after a slew of movies and TV shows about British folk legend Robin Hood (you know, the forest-dwelling, Lincoln Green-sporting warrior who became known for robbing the rich to help poor thing) that everything anyone would ever want to say about the character has already been covered. Surely, by the time you get to a Mel Brooks parody movie, you’ve reached pop culture apotheosis, right?

However, that has never been the case with Hood, the most recent being the 2018 version starring Taron Egerton. And now comes the writer and director of ‘Pig’ and ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’, Michael Sarnoski, who has created his own version of it, ‘The Death of Robin Hood’.

And it’s got a great cast leading this one, with Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer on board as leads.

What is the story of ‘The Death of Robin Hood’?

According to deadline, this is a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale. The film will see the main character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, a battle-worn loner who finds himself seriously injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation.

Jackman, of course, will be Hood (in shades of his old, battered Wolverine in ‘Logan’), while Comer (known for films like ‘Killing Eve’ and ‘The Last Duel’) will be the mystery woman.

This is what Sarnoski says about the film:

“It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood. It was essential to get the perfect cast to transform the script on screen. “I couldn’t be more excited and confident in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way.”

And here are producers Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett:

“This is not the Robin Hood story we all know. Instead, Michael has created something much more grounded and visceral. Thanks to Alexander Black and our friends at Lyrical along with Rama and Michael, the world will love seeing Hugh and Jodie together in this epic.”

Lyrical Media has financed the film.

When will ‘The Death of Robin Hood’ be in theaters?

With production set to begin in February next year, we wouldn’t expect this until late 2025 or sometime in 2026. The rights to distribute the film will be on sale at this month’s Cannes Market.
