Data issued by the department’s registration and licensing transactions indicated that the licenses completed by Sharjah Economy during the first quarter included 2,129 issued licenses and 15,593 renewed licenses, a growth rate of 1% over the same period in 2023.

His Excellency Hamad Ali Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Economic Development, said: “The issuance of these data is one of the important economic indicators that the department relies on to study the economic situation in the emirate,” stressing that the strategic goal of the department is focused on achieving a comprehensive development plan that enhances economic development in the emirate by By developing services to match the highest international quality standards in terms of speed of completion and access to dealers in the economic sector and investors, and striving to complete transactions easily and smoothly.

Al Mahmoud added: “The data issued by the department indicate that there is an increase in investment activity in existing projects, and these are indicators that indicate sustainable growth for the economy of the Emirate of Sharjah, and that these numbers reflect the confidence of the business sectors in the investment opportunities available in the emirate,” noting that the business results, Including the issuance and renewal of licenses, it is in line with the general growth in the domestic product recorded recently by the Emirate of Sharjah.

For his part, Fahd Al-Khamiri, Director of the Department of Registration and Licensing at the department, said that the growth of business licenses during the first quarter of 2024 confirms the strength of the local economy and the attractiveness of the investment environment in the emirate, explaining that the number of commercial licenses issued during the first quarter was 1,336 licenses, followed by professional licenses, with 558 licenses, and industrial licenses. 111 licenses, and the number of “Etimad” licenses was 62, while the number of electronic trading licenses issued by the department reached 62 licenses.

He added that commercial licenses renewed in the same year reached 10,085 licenses, followed by professional licenses renewed with about 4,562 licenses, then industrial licenses with a total of 730 licenses, and the number of renewed Etemad licenses reached 151 licenses, while the number of renewed electronic commerce licenses reached 65 licenses, pointing out that This indicates the continuity and commitment to carrying out business and economic activities effectively in the emirate and the ability it possesses to maintain economic balance in the main sectors.

He pointed to the role of service centers, which are considered one of the strategic partners of the Department of Economic Development, as these centers provide a set of procedures and services that are considered among the basic priorities in conducting commercial activities, stressing that the department’s digital services come within its initiatives to simplify procedures, reduce time, and provide services to raise the aspirations of customers and provide opportunities. It is noteworthy that, according to the data issued by the department, some activities witnessed a remarkable demand during the first quarter of this year, the most prominent of which was the sale of snacks (cafeteria, restaurant), trade in used passenger cars, trade in used spare parts for cars, trade in ready-made clothes, and trade in accessories. Khalfan Al Harithi, Director of Branches Department at Sharjah Economy, said: “The Department’s branches completed 11,186 licenses issued and renewed during the first quarter of the year 2024, according to data on business licenses for the Department’s branches spread across the cities and regions of the Emirate of Sharjah.”

He continued: “Business licenses issued during the first quarter of the year 2024 amounted to 1,385 licenses, and the Industrial Branch topped the number of licenses issued with about 1,026 licenses, followed by the Central Region Branch with 187 licenses, in addition to the Khor Fakkan Branch with about 79 licenses, while the number of licenses for the branch reached Kalba received 74 licenses, and the number of licenses issued for the Dibba Al-Hisn branch reached 19 licenses.

Regarding the renewed licenses according to the department’s branches, the number of licenses for the department’s branch in the industrial area reached 6,946 licenses, the Central Region branch reached 1,589 licenses, and the renewed licenses in the Khor Fakkan branch reached 627 licenses. The Kalba branch also worked on renewing 529 licenses, and renewals for the department’s licenses amounted to 627 licenses. In its branch in Dibba Al-Hisn, it reached 109 licenses, bringing the total number of renewed licenses in the department’s various branches to 9,800 licenses for the year 2024.

Al Harithi pointed out the department’s continuous support for investment projects in the central and eastern region, especially national projects and entrepreneurs’ projects.

For his part, Salem Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of the Department of Commercial Control and Protection at the Department, explained that the Department processed more than 53,545 transactions during the first quarter of the year 2024, and these transactions were concentrated in the Industrial Branch with 26,056 transactions, followed by the Main Center Branch with 16,193 transactions, and the Central Region Branch. With 6,504 transactions, the Khor Fakkan branch with 2,837 transactions, the Kalba branch with 1,357 transactions, and the Dibba Al-Hisn branch with a total of 598 transactions.

The department also processed 3,915 complaints received during the first quarter of this year, with consumer protection complaints accounting for the largest share, with 3,511 complaints out of the total complaints processed, while the number of commercial fraud complaints reached 220 complaints, while service agent complaints reached 184 complaints.

Regarding scales data according to type of scale during the first quarter of 2024, the total number of “commercial and gold” scales reached about 1,268 scales, compared to 1,159 scales in the first quarter of 2023, an increase of 9%.
