Lisa Curry shares new theory that daughter Jaimi was ‘bashed by dodgy people’ before her death at age 33: ‘Covered in bruises’

Lisa Curry has revealed for the first time that she suspects her daughter may have been subjected to violence before her untimely death.

Jaimi, Lisa’s eldest daughter with ex-husband Grant Kenny, died in September 2020 following an 18-year battle with alcohol addiction and anorexia.

But the former Ironwoman says that Jaimi, who was just 33 when she died, had shared photos of her body covered in bruises prior to her death.

‘She sent me every photo. We had this thing going where she would send me a photo of a little flower growing out of the concrete, or she’d send me a beautiful door, or her breakfast, or herself covered in bruises,’ Lisa, 64, told The Healthy Her podcast.

‘I mean, I’ve got photos on my phone where a couple of times I’ve looked at them and I’m thinking “hang on a minute, what happened here?”‘

Lisa said that while Jaimi excused the injuries as accidental, she now believes her daughter may have been hiding the truth.

‘Because to me it looks like someone has bashed her,’ Lisa said.

‘And I’m not quite a hundred per cent sure that that didn’t happen, because of the photos on my phone.’

Lisa said that Jaimi would swear she obtained the bruises from bumping into a door or falling over – but Lisa is no longer sure that was the case.

‘I knew some of the really dodgy people that were around her, and now when I look at the photos I think, “you don’t get a black eye from [bumping into something like that]”,’ she said.

‘I’m still trying to understand… and it’s really hard.’

The exact cause of Jaimi’s death has never been revealed, but she had battled with eating disorders and alcoholism for almost 20 years.

Lisa said Jaimi, ‘was really, really unwell, and we couldn’t save her.’

The former Olympian frequently pays tribute to her eldest child in social media posts, marking the five-year anniversary of Jaimi’s passing last year.

‘The grief started before she was gone. Not knowing when or if that awful day would ever come. Living with hope, living in fear,’ Lisa wrote on Instagram.

‘It was all-consuming. The slow and inevitable breaking of our hearts as we watched our baby fade away.

‘And even though she still kept smiling right to the end, we could see the sadness in her eyes. We knew she was slipping away.’

She went on to say that watching someone you love die is something that never leaves you, with Jaimi’s last moments still so vivid in her mind, even years later.

‘Even though we are still sad inside, and always will be, we feel lighter, able to smile, laugh and continue on… and breathe… and as long as we breathe, we will remember our beautiful Jaimi,’ Lisa wrote.

Lisa revealed last year that she had scattered some of Jaimi’s ashes in Italy, and some in France.

‘She’s with me here in Italy, came for a swim with me, and then my friend Georgie and I left some ashes in the beautiful waters of Sardinia,’ Lisa said during a trip to the region.

‘She’s also in France today in the lavender fields with her friend Millie.’

She added: ‘Never forgotten. Forever young and beautiful. Resting in peace.’

Lisa married Grant Kenny in 1984, before they separated in 2009.

During their marriage they welcomed three children together: son Jett, 31, and daughters Morgan, 35, and Jaimi.

The athlete went on to marry Elvis impersonator Mark Tabone in 2018.

Announcing the sad news of Jaimi’s death on social media in 2020, Lisa wrote: ‘Our beautiful daughter Jaimi has lost her battle with a long-term illness and passed away peacefully in hospital yesterday morning with her loving family by her side.’
