Man due to be charged with murder after woman, 46, found dead in Canberra unit fire

A man is expected to be charged with murder and arson after the body of a woman was found in her apartment.

Kylee McHugh, 46, was discovered after emergency services responded to a fire at her unit in Osborne Place, in the Canberra suburb of Belconnen, about 6.40am on May 18.

Police arrested a 37-year-old man following a months-long homicide investigation surrounding Ms McHugh’s death.

Acting Detective Inspector Chris Watson addressed reporters in May, describing the incident as suspicious.

At the time, he said investigators wanted to speak to anyone who had contact with Ms McHugh in the three days prior to her death.

The man will face court later on Tuesday, where he is expected to be charged with murder and arson.

Police will also provide an update on the investigation.
