Ipswich father charged with murdering three-month-old son

A man has been charged with murder following the death of his three-month-old baby boy west of Brisbane.
Queensland Police launched an investigation last Thursday after the infant was taken to Ipswich Hospital with significant internal injuries.
The three-month-old boy was later transferred to Brisbane’s Queensland Children’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Ipswich Child Protection Investigation Unit detectives, with assistance from the Child Trauma Unit, have since arrested 28-year-old Uneeb Ullah at an Ipswich address.
He was charged with one count of murder – domestic violence against a child.
Ullah, the child’s father, was not required to appear when his matter was mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Police prosecutor Ben Messina had asked the matter be stood down until later in the day.
‘I received a phone call this morning … that potentially more material would be provided and asked if this matter be stood down to the end of the list,’ Sergeant Messina said of the ‘relatively vague request’.

The magistrate agreed to re-mention the case if other charges were laid.
Kirstyn Nicholson, a Legal Aid solicitor representing Ullah, did not apply for bail and sought an adjournment.
Ullah was remanded in custody until the matter returns to court on October 26.
Investigations into the baby’s death continue.
Detective Inspector Michael Manago earlier alleged Ullah was home alone with the child when the baby was injured.
‘Our thoughts are with this young boy’s family and their friends in what is an unimaginably difficult time for them,’ Manago said.
‘Any death is devastating but the death involving a young and vulnerable member of the community is particularly tragic.’
Ullah was in a relationship with the boy’s mother at the time of the alleged incident.
The baby had significant internal injuries and died at Brisbane’s Queensland Children’s Hospital on Tuesday
They had no other children and limited family support in Australia.
‘The boy’s mother is extremely upset, she’s struggling but we’re offering all the support we can,’ Manago said.
Manago also thanked officers who ‘worked tirelessly’ on the case and emergency responders.
‘Our thoughts are also with hospital staff and all the other police that have been involved in this incredibly tragic event,’ he said.
‘It’s an incredibly confronting and difficult investigation as you can imagine, anything involving the young and vulnerable members of the community are always hard to investigate and deal with – the investigators have been nothing but professional, I couldn’t be prouder of them.’
