NFL fans blast saxophone performer’s ‘worst national anthem of all time’ before Eagles-Cowboys showdown

Fans tuning in to watch Monday Night Football in Week 7 were left unimpressed with the game’s performance of the national anthem.
Prior to kickoff of Cowboys @ Eagles, saxophonist Hiruy Tirfe was given the honor of playing the anthem to the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field.
Tirfe’s performance was certainly more jazz-influenced than other renditions of the anthem – with maybe one or two surprising improvisations – but the tenor saxophonist finished to whistles and applause from the crowd.
However, the reaction on social media was much different as users blasted Tirfe for his playing.
‘Leave it to the Philadelphia eagles to have an absolutely garbage rendition of the national anthem,’ wrote one user.
Another said: ‘Worst National Anthem Ever! Really Blows! #DALvsPHI.’

Saxophonist Hiruy Tirfe performed a jazzier-than-normal rendition of the song in Philadelphia
‘What a horrible saxophone National Anthem tonight. Do you guys ever preview what you’re presenting on television,’ a user wondered.
One comment read: ‘With all due respect, a saxophone might be the worst way to perform the national anthem.’
‘I always prefer someone to sing it [shrug emoji] They did the same thing for #NFLParis,’ read another negative post.
MNF has had divisive anthem performances for the past two weeks. Last week in Santa Clara, pop singer Pat Monahan sang the song alongside his 14-year-old son, Rock.
Fans didn’t like that one either: ‘Easily the worst rendition of the national anthem by a professional singer I can remember,’ read one comment at the time.
Another example read: ‘Might be worst national anthem I’ve seen #MNF.’
