Active shooting in South Carolina mall leaves ‘multiple’ people injured as cops swarm scene

Multiple people have been injured during an active shooting at a South Carolina shopping center on Saturday.

Police swarmed the Hayward Mall in Greenville on Saturday afternoon after reports of an active shooter.

Two shooting victims were located inside the building, officers told WSPA. They were taken to the hospital for treatment. 

Several people have been detained while the police work to evacuate the mall. The shooting reportedly started in the food court. 

Police said this is not a random shooting. The Daily Mail has reached out to the police for comment.

Witness video showed one young man being handcuffed while leaning on the back of a sheriff’s car. 

One officer was seen frisking the young man, while another held his hands behind back. Then he was placed in the backseat of the car.  

One X user who claimed to be at the mall said ‘everybody [was] running, trying to get out’ after the shots rang out.

A large police prescense was seen at the mall as they work to clear it out 

‘I’m in line to check out, had to drop my s**t. I honestly wanted to take shoes with me,’ they wrote. 

‘I was about to ask the lady: “Can I just Zelle you for the shoes?” I turn around and she running too.’

Another person said their relative was holed up in a barricaded stock room, while another said their wife was also in a back room hiding. 

‘Check on your people if they were going there today!’ one scared husband wrote. 

The mall previously amped up security last year due to fights happening at the establishment, The Greenville News said. 

The mall partnered with the police to help make the premises more secure after several fights happened. 

The mall is 1.2 million-square-feet that was opened in 1980 and has store like Aerie and the Cheesecake Factory.
