Actress best known for her work in late 80s films and marriage to famous heartthrob is seen on a rare outing in LA… can you guess who?

She is a British actress who has over 90 credits to her name with a career spanning over five decades.

The thespian was a fixture on British television before shifting over to films in the US. 

Though she has maintained an active career over the years, the star is best known for her work in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The actress was also married to one of her co-stars who happened to be one of the biggest heartthrobs of the same era.

Now the actress has been seen on a rare outing in Los Angeles.

It is Joanne Whalley who starred in 1988 classic sci-fi flick Willow and former wife of Val Kilmer!

The now 65-year-old actress was seen braving the hot temperatures in Southern California as she walked her dog with a friend.

Whalley opted for comfort in an all black look including T-Shirt, three-quarter length leggings, and Adidas sneakers.

She let her natural evergreen looks shine by going make-up free while her brunette tresses were pulled back in a ponytail.

The talented actress came to fame with appearances on British TV including drama series Edge of Darkness in 1985 which earned her a BAFTA TV nomination for Best Actress.

However, it was her role in 1988 Willow which saw her reach worldwide fame as she met future husband Kilmer on set.

In the Ron Howard directed project Whalley starred as warrior Sorsha who fell in love with mercenary swordsman Madmartigan played by Kilmer.

The adventure film executive produced by George Lucas also starred Warwick Davis in the titular role along with Jean Marsh, Patricia Hayes, Kevin Pollack, Bill Barty, and Pat Roach.

It ultimately grossed $137.million worldwide with a $35million budget. 

However the biggest thing which came as a result of the film perhaps was the marriage between Whalley and Kilmer which lasted from 1988 to 1996.  

Kilmer famously had a vision that he would marry British actress Joanne Whalley days before he laid eyes on her for the first time. 

In 1985, the Top Gun actor followed Joanne from the West End to an after-party after he became enamored by her beauty and talent when he watched her in a play.

While the Hollywood playboy was hardly shy around women, there was something about Joanne that rendered him speechless; that night, he left the pub without saying goodbye to the woman who would become his future wife. 

Two years later in 1987, Val and Joanne came face-to-face onscreen for the first time when they were introduced as each other’s love interests in the fantasy film Willow. 

The whirlwind romance spawned an eight-year marriage that produced two children but ultimately ended in heartbreak after Joanne brutally ended their relationship – as Val famously quipped their divorce was ‘the second most expensive’ in New Mexico. 

Despite going their separate ways, Val and Joanne continued to co-parent their two children, son Jack, 30, and daughter Mercedes, 34, in the years leading up to his death. 

Kilmer ultimately passed away on April 1, 2025 from pneumonia after a long battle with cancer.

Whalley is also known for her role in 1989 historical drama film Scandal in which she played a young exotic dancer named Christine Keeler who enchants an English bon-vivant osteopath played by John Hurt.

Her career has also seen her cast as a number of historical and fictional figures including: Scarlett O’Hara in Scarlett (1994), Jackie Kennedy in Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis (2000), Queen Mary I in The Virgin Queen (2005), and Catherine of Aragon in Wolf Hall (2015).

Whalley is still actively acting as she last starred as Sophia in unconventional documentary Every Moon Is Atrocious which was released earlier this year.

She also starred in all five episodes of British television series The Rumour which was released last year.
