Kamala wonders where the applause is after delivering what she thought was a killer line… then bursts into trademark cackle

This is the moment Kamala Harris was left wondering where the applause was after she delivered what she thought as a killer line at a Democratic campaign event.

Harris was addressing supporters of Dr Richard Pan at his Sacramento campaign headquarters on Friday.

Pan is running in California’s 6th Congressional District against Representative Kevin Kiley, a former Republican now running as an independent.

Harris was mocking Kiley’s political record telling the audience that he was ‘trying to hide behind being an independent now.’

‘Oh, I’m not that guy. I’m now this guy,’ she said in footage obtained by the Sacramento Bee. ‘Well, this guy who was that guy and is still this guy and that guy.’

Harris paused after delivering the line, apparently hoping for a more raucous response.

‘Come on now,’ she said, before bursting into her trademark cackling laughter.

Harris’ visit to Sacramento was part of a broader return to the campaign trail ahead of November’s midterm elections.

The failed presidential candidate is also lining up appearances for Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff and Nevada gubernatorial candidate Aaron Ford.

Harris is widely tipped for another tilt at the White House in 2028 but has emphasized that electing Democrats this November is her immediate priority.

‘Right now, midterms, midterms, midterms full time occupying my thoughts, my mind and my work,’ she said during a September interview on Megan Rapinoe’s podcast.

Pan is the heavy favorite on prediction market Kalshi, which currently shows a 93.4 percent chance of him winning, against 11 percent for Kiley.

The race is part of a nationwide Democratic push to wrest control of the House on November 3, with the party needing a net gain of just three seats to reach the 218 required for a majority.

Democrats are projected to pick up at least 15 House seats and between one and five in the Senate, according to Cook Political Report analysis published last month.

The party is expanding its offensive into GOP heartlands, including districts Donald Trump carried by double digits in 2024, hoping to secure a significant majority.

The reddest include New York’s 21st District and Tennessee’s redrawn 9th, both of which Trump won by 21 points.

They are also targeting Arkansas’ 2nd, which Trump carried by 16; Florida’s 27th, which he won by 15; Nevada’s 2nd, which Trump won by 14; and Colorado’s 3rd, which he took by 10.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee added the six seats to its ‘Red to Blue’ program on Sunday.

‘House Democrats are poised to take back the majority,’ party leader Hakeem Jeffries said.

A victory would put the New York congressman in line to replace Mike Johnson as speaker.
