Netflix fans rave over ‘best show in a long time’ as they binge-watch every episode of ‘top-tier’ thriller and demand a second series

A new Netflix thriller has been described as the ‘best show’ viewers have seen in a long time after they binge-watched the ‘top-tier’ thriller.

The Beast In Me is now topping TV charts around the world thanks to its fast-paced, dark plot which centres around a ‘toxic’ entanglement. 

The show’s official synopsis reads: ‘Grief-stricken and desperate for purpose, Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes) becomes entangled with Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys) – a man once accused of murder. Obsession turns toxic. Danger creeps closer. 

‘The Beast in Me is a dark and twisting new series that asks: When you chase a monster, what do you become?’

Despite being out for less than a week, the show already has an impressive rating of 7.5 out of 10 on IMDb and an even better score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. 

The American psychological thriller also features Brittany Snow as Nina Jarvis, Nile’s second wife, and Natalie Morales as Shelley, Aggie’s ex-wife.

Critics praised on Rotten Tomatoes: ‘A good binge watch. Really good to see Claire Danes back on the screen. The whole cast is excellent and keeps you engaged and enthralled right to the end. Must watch of 2025 for me.’;

‘One of the best series I’ve watched on Netflix in a very long time. The acting was superb, the opulence of the setting and the storyline was never without a pulse. Claire dishes and Matthew Rhys had an incredible chemistry and the dynamic was incredible throughout. Supporting actors were superb and furnished the show with their performances.’;

This praise also extended to the mainstream media, with The Guardian writing in its review: ‘This clever, taut eight-part psychological thriller moves seamlessly into top-tier television.’

Vanity Fair, meanwhile, described the show as a ‘brainy, stylish cat-and-mouse thriller.’ 

The outlet also had particular praise for its stars, adding:  ‘Two slithery performances – each impossible to pin down, but vividly compelling from start to finish.’  

Sitting down with Netflix to discuss the show, Claire Danes opened up about the most ‘intimidating’ part of taking on the role of Aggie as fans beg Netflix to make a second season .

She said: ‘I worried about so much of the story revolving around this woman who is really introverted, really internal – paralysed with grief, initially. 

‘Like, “Ah! How do we invite an audience into this woman’s world, when she’s worked so hard to create fences around it?”‘

‘That was probably the biggest trick for me – and the greatest source of intimidation. But again, I think [the director] Antonio [Campos] made all that possible. He really understood where that tension lay and how to make her accessible, even when she was so defended and kind of receding.’
