Former New York mayor and Trump ally Rudy Giuliani is in a Florida hospital in critical condition, his spokesperson says.
Spokesperson Ted Goodman did not specify which hospital and said Giuliani, 81, was “in critical but stable condition”.
“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak,” Goodman said, before asking “that you join us in prayer” for the former mayor.
The reason for Giuliani’s admission and how long he has been in hospital is unclear, the New York Times reported.
Giuliani was acclaimed for his response to the September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda attack on New York, earning the nickname “America’s Mayor”. He ran for president in 2008 and, for a time, was seen as the frontrunner for the Republican Party nomination, which was eventually won by senator John McCain.
Giuliani later worked as an attorney for President Donald Trump in his failed efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, which led to criminal charges against him in two US states and a defamation lawsuit by election workers. He has denied wrongdoing in the criminal cases.
The former mayor was previously hospitalised last year following a car crash in New Hampshire.
