San Diego police are on the scene of a reported active shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego.
Police described the scene as “active but contained” in a post on X, and vast numbers of officers could be seen flooding the area.
Few details are immediately available about the apparent incident, which was reported to police around 11:40 am.
At least one person was killed in the shooting, local news outlet KGTV reported, though that is unconfirmed by police.
Staff and law enforcement could be seen walking children out of the compound.
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria wrote on X he was aware of the incident and asked the public to avoid the center.
“Please avoid the area and follow instructions from public safety officials,” he said. “We will share updates as more information becomes available.”
The center, which is home to a school offering Arabic courses and Islamic studies, is the largest mosque in San Diego County.
