Trump’s ‘first-look’ at interior of White House ballroom reveals signature detail dominating room
President Donald Trump has released new detailed renderings of the interior of his controversial White House ballroom, revealing it to be decked out in his beloved gold trim.
“First interior renderings of the magnificent new Ballroom at the White House,” the president posted excitedly on Truth Social late Sunday after returning from watching the Irish Open at his golf club in Doonbeg.
“Massively expensive, but free of charge to the American Taxpayer — On budget, and ahead of schedule!” the president claimed.
The attached artwork revealed the $600 million ballroom to be a cavernous space lined with shiny golden-brown-tinged marble flooring and ornate gold detailing dominating its walls and ceiling, from which several chandeliers hang.
One of the images suggested it would have imposing wooden doors like those at the Kremlin but, overall, the impression was much more Mar-a-Lago than Moscow, more Liberace than Lenin.
The president has already stuffed the Oval Office with as much gold as possible and paved over the Rose Garden to make a patio like that providing the centerpiece of his Florida residence, just two examples of the many, many tweaks and changes he has made to the White House since returning to power in January 2025.
In another post Sunday, Trump promised his “spectacular” ballroom “will be the GREATEST of its kind anywhere in the World!” and again stressed: “It is a Gift to the U.S.A. from me and other American Patriots – No Taxpayer Dollars will be expended in its Construction.”
And, in another, he claimed the White House had been “a dump” before he began redecorating it, having been neglected by his predecessors, and boasted that it is “now in better shape than when built in 1792.”
The president caused shock and outrage last year when he unceremoniously had the East Wing demolished to make way for the ballroom, a complex he insisted has been badly needed for decades.
He has also claimed the ballroom is necessary because of the security enhancements it will bring – an argument undermined by the prior existence of a secret bunker, built after 9/11, which is capable of withstanding a nuclear blast.
However, his project has been tangled up in legal challenges since its inception, with the Supreme Court recently ruling Trump can continue building – for now at least.
Chief Justice John Roberts allowed the administration to temporarily press on with construction while his justices weigh whether or not to intervene in an ongoing lawsuit brought by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which argues Trump must secure congressional approval before proceeding.
The president hailed that development last month by posting a picture of the 90,000 square foot construction site and declaring: “Presidents have wanted this for 150 years, and so has everyone else.”
Other projects he has commenced as part of his “beautification” agenda in Washington include the construction of a new helipad on the South Lawn and, most disastrously, his makeover of the Lincoln Memorial’s Reflecting Pool in “American Flag Blue,” which became one of the defining scandals of the summer.
