Washington train crash leaves 11 injured after collision at Metro Center

Eleven people have been injured after a work vehicle struck a stationary commuter train in downtown Washington early on Wednesday.

The incident, which happened just after midnight at the Metro Center station, involved a Silver Line train, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro).

Officials confirmed the injuries were not life-threatening, but did not elaborate on their severity.

A post on X from the Metro read: “Just before midnight (close of service), a work vehicle on the Silver Line made contact with a stationary train at Metro Center. 11 non-life-threatening injuries were reported. We’re working with our partners to investigate. We will provide updates on any impacts to A.M. service.”

Metro has advised passengers to anticipate system-wide delays throughout Wednesday morning as the collision is investigated, with some trains currently operating on a single track in the vicinity.
