Our verdict

The Weber Genesis Stealth is a three-burner gas BBQ with a sear burner, that’s built for hosting and is designed with wow-factor in mind.

With a striking black exterior and bold red finishing touches, the grill doesn’t only look the part, it lives up to it too.

Performance-wise, it cooked just about anything I put on the grill perfectly, and despite feeling huge (I’m more accustomed to smaller BBQs that serve two to four), it was easy to use.

It has a huge capacity and is capable of serving more than 10 people at once, making it perfect for parties.

That being said, the grill is also pretty versatile for smaller groups, as the separate burners can all be individually turned on and off. This means if you just wanted to cook on a small section for a few guests, you easily could.

If you’re a fan of big grills and love to host during the summer, this BBQ could be the one for you.

How we test

When testing home and garden appliances, I put them through a series of tests to determine whether they live up to their claims.

For BBQs, I consider performance factors including how long it takes to set up, cooking times, how good a sear meat gets and how much food it can grill at once.

As well as performance and setup, I take into consideration whether any additional tools are included or needed and of course, general value for money compared to similar models.

All of this allows me to provide a well-rounded and honest review to help you make an informed purchasing decision.

With the Weber Genesis, I put it to the test by cooking full BBQs for several people. This involved cooking different foods, including beef burgers, kebabs, steaks, chicken drumsticks, haloumi and even a full chicken.

Weber Genesis Stealth BBQ review

Design

Jet black, modern and big, with striking red details – the Weber Stealth Genesis is built to stir a reaction from guests. I’ve cooked for a few different friends, and each one has commented on how impressive the BBQ looks, and that’s before I’ve even put any meat on the grill.

It features three burners as well as a sear section that provides a spacious area for searing multiple things at once, and has large preparation and serving tables on either side of the grill.

There’s also a cabinet on the left for handy storage. I keep the rotisserie grill in there when we’re not using it, but other BBQ items and tools would easily fit in as well. It’s even roomy enough to hold other things perfect for hosting, like full-sized water serving bottles.

Several hooks are placed in handy spots around the edge of the grill that are perfect for conveniently hanging tools – from tongs to metal spatulas.

The BBQ sits on wheels with brakes, which allow it to be easily moved around your patio or garden despite its heavy weight and then locked securely in place – something I’ve found particularly useful when I need to make space in my small outdoor area and don’t intend to use the grill.

I personally really like the finishing touches on the lid – the shiny metal handle stands out and shines against the matte black, and adds to the overall wow-factor of the BBQ. My only gripe is the dials/buttons are a matte plastic grey, and feel slightly out of touch with the rest of the BBQ’s hard metal and sleek design – but that’s just my personal preference.

Ease of use

Although this BBQ might seem big and intimidating to novice grillers, it’s surprisingly easy to use.

Before the Weber, I had only used small grills that served around two to four people, so this was a huge step up in terms of size, functions and serving capabilities.

Thankfully, its simplistic design meant I was able to get to grips with everything very easily.

Each dial ignites a section of the grill so that you don’t have to run gas through the entire thing just to serve a small group, and if more friends join the BBQ, you can swiftly heat up more cooking space without hassle.

The sear zone might be my favourite part – it delivers up to 50 per cent more heat and is perfect for adding a nice char to burgers and steaks, and gives them a nice barbecued touch whilst impressing guests as the flames flare up a little.

Building the BBQ wasn’t too tricky considering its size and all the components that go into it. The grill arrived in several different pieces and took a few hours to complete alone, but would probably take less time if two people worked together.

After all the food is eaten and the gathering winds down, tidying up and cleaning the BBQ is quick and easy, even though it’s so big. There’s an easy pull-out grease tray underneath the grill, and the grates scrub off nicely with a wire brush. Deeper cleans are simple to complete, too, as all of the components easily take apart and can be washed separately.

With it being a gas BBQ, an added bonus was that I didn’t feel like I had to change my clothes afterwards, as they didn’t have the strong charcoal smell you often find with other grills, which was refreshing.

Grilling performance

This is the most important factor in my eyes, with any BBQ, and the Weber Genesis Stealth did not disappoint.

Having mostly used charcoal BBQs before, I was anxious that, despite how great the Weber looked, it wouldn’t produce the same charred flavour and sears that I love.

But, I didn’t have to worry, I tested it out with burgers, kebabs, drumsticks, halloumi and sausages, and even crisped up some jacket potatoes on the side too.

The griddles heat up quickly, and the burgers and sausages were soon sizzling without the faff or waiting that you have to go through with lighting charcoal BBQs.

The included rotisserie grill is a huge added bonus; it’s something not many BBQs come with and only adds to its ability to serve a party.

A handy shelf sits along the top of the griddle and was perfect for popping the cooked meat and jacket potatoes. It left the potatoes crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside.

The lid, which lifts smoothly with a large handle, was great at keeping things hot too, and seals tightly shut.

How does it compare to similar products?

Even with the high price tag, the Weber Genesis Stealth BBQ feels worth the money and is a great option for keen grillers who love to host.

It is more expensive than other high-end products on the market, like the Ninja Flex Flame Gas BBQ and Outdoor Cooking System, which can do anything from glazed ham to pizza and is priced at £999.99.

But with the impressive Weber name and reputation, you’re guaranteed to be purchasing a good-quality grill.

You do have to purchase a cover for the BBQ separately, which costs X for the branded option, but the price includes the rotisserie grill.
