Federation Council approves Putin’s request to use Russian forces outside the country

The Federation Council gave its approval to Russian President Vladimir Putin to use the armed forces abroad. The corresponding resolution was adopted unanimously during an extraordinary meeting of the Senate.

“Having taken upon ourselves the obligations to protect the republics, we must, of course, use the resources that Russia has,” said Senator Yuri Vorobyov. “The use of armed forces outside the Russian Federation is by no means always a violent process. Often, their application brings peace. And we also depend on it.

The resolution was supported by 153 senators. The document enters into force from the moment of its adoption.

In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, “as stated in the Resolution”.
The President of the Russian Federation determines the total number of formations of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, their areas of operation, the tasks they face, and the period of their stay outside the territory of the Russian Federation.
