The European Union extends the mandate of its advisory mission on security sector reform in Iraq

Brussels, April 29 / WAM / The European Council in Brussels issued a decision extending the mandate of the European Union Advisory Mission to support security sector reform in Iraq.

Until April 30, 2026, with a budget of approximately €66 million allocated for the period from May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2026.

The strategic objectives of the mandate of the EU Delegation in Iraq were also modified in order to further contribute to developing/strengthening the civilian aspects of security sector reform in Iraq.

The decision was taken as part of the strategic review of the mission conducted by the European Political and Security Committee in Brussels.
