Published the first image of the shadow of a black hole

The European Southern Observatory has obtained the first-ever image of the shadow of a supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way.

It is observed that the black hole is located at a distance of about 27 thousand light-years from the Sun and is associated with the radio source (arc A*).

Thanks to new methods for processing the resulting data, astrophysicists were able to discover Sagittarius A*, and it took five years.

Earlier, a group of American scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), studied the “echoes” of black holes, which are activated by the absorption of gas and dust from surrounding space and companion star matter, turning explosions and variations of radiation into audible sounds that can be distinguished from way of the human ear.

In the process of absorption of matter by the black hole, a rapidly rotating accretion disk is formed around it, the particles are heated in the process of mutual friction to such an extent that they begin to emit X-rays that highlight the surroundings of the black hole, reflected from the gas clouds – this phenomenon is called “echo” black holes.
